Legendary Players for Manchester United
From Bobby Charlton and the Busby Babes to George Best and the flair he brought to the matchdays at Old Trafford, it is Ryan Giggs, part of the 'Class of 92' who was recently named by the Manchester Evening News as the greatest United Player of all time.
The Welsh winger won 13 Premier League titles with United, four FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions Leagues. His name often sounding out from Old Trafford's Stretford end Giggs had the skill to beat anyone. Alongside peers David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Phil and Gary Neville with the Gallic flair of Eric Cantona, Giggs thrived.
Class of 92
The Class of 92 is the name given to the players who would form the spine of the Manchester United team who moved up from the youth team in 1992. It includes Beckham, Scholes, Butt and Phil and Gary Neville and Giggs. These players won a similar number of trophies to Giggs described in the paragraph above and will go down in United Kingdom football history.
Not all of them stayed at Manchester United for their entire career. Phil Neville moved to Everton where he made 242 appearances for the Goodison Park Club. Butt moved to Newcastle United Football Club. But when they played together a game vs Manchester United was always a difficult proposition.
Manchester United Rivalries
Manchester United have two main rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Based just across Manchester at the Etihad Stadium, City were once described as the 'noisy neighbours' by Alex Ferguson relating to their support but lack of silverware. For years this derby was one-sided until around about the late 2000's when Manchester City became as competitive as the Red Devils.
Liverpool at Anfield is a date every Manchester United fan would like Man United tickets in the away end. But whether it is in home matches or away games the rivalry between these two sides is fierce. Liverpool dominated the 80's, United the 90's and 00's. The fixture has produced the second most red cards in Premier League history.
Leeds United is a rivalry that has been reignited over the last couple of seasons. A battle between the red and white roses of Lancashire and Yorkshire is a feisty affair, especially when Man United visit Elland Road.
Current Premier League Stars for Manchester United
Manchester United have been searching for stars over the recent season and they thought they had found one during the 2021/22 season when Cristiano Ronaldo signed from Juventus. The five-time Champions League and five-time Ballon d'Or winner is one of the best players the world has ever seen. Ronaldo bagged a brace against Arsenal this season taking him past 800 goals in his career.
Manchester United's 2021/22 Premier League Season So Far
Manchester United's 2021/22 season has been disappointing so far and a run of seven games with only one win saw the back of coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Included in the run were losses against Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City and Watford. The Watford game was the Norwegian's last in charge.
Preceding that run were four wins out of five and Solskjaer must have been enthused about his club's chances for the season.
After former Tottenham Hotspur and Utd player Michael Carrick took the caretaker role and earned a creditable draw against Arsenal and a win against Chelsea. German coach Ralf Rangnick was soon appointed. He started with wins against Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley in his first four games. A 3-1 win against Brentford looked particularly impressive as United go into the second-half of the season.
Fans looking to buy Manchester United tickets will be looking forward to trips to the Emirates Stadium, Turf Moor, Selhurst Park and more as the season progresses.
Throw in Atletico Madrid in the Champions League including an away tie at the Wanda Metropolitano and on face value there is a lot to look forward to.
